Breast Cancer Awareness

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 5 – Gender Equality, Prabhaav Foundation organised the Breast Cancer Awareness Program to promote women’s health awareness and encourage preventive healthcare practices. Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in India, with many cases diagnosed at advanced stages due to lack of awareness, fear, stigma, and delayed medical consultation. The programme aimed to address these challenges by creating awareness around early detection and regular screening.

In collaboration with CSR partner Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Prabhaav Foundation conducted more than five awareness sessions, engaging approximately 25–30 women in each session. The workshops provided a safe and supportive platform where women could openly discuss breast health concerns and gain practical knowledge about preventive healthcare.

A major focus of the programme was educating women about Breast Self-Examination (BSE), a simple yet effective technique for identifying early signs of breast abnormalities. Participants were trained on the correct methods of self-examination and informed about warning signs such as lumps, skin thickening, nipple discharge, and visible changes in breast appearance. To strengthen practical understanding, women were introduced to BCG (Breast Care Gloves), an innovative Japanese self-screening aid that enhances finger sensitivity and helps make self-examination more effective than using bare hands.

The programme concluded with a special event in July 2025 attended by doctors, healthcare experts, volunteers, community members, and the Japanese contingent. Through expert guidance, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations, the initiative empowered women with knowledge, confidence, and awareness, encouraging them to prioritise early detection and become advocates for preventive breast healthcare within their communities.
