Primary Health Centres

Strengthening rural healthcare begins with ensuring reliable access to primary services. For millions
across rural India, Primary Health Centres (PHCs) serve as the first—and often only—point of medical care. Recognizing their critical role, the Foundation has focused on upgrading PHCs to build healthier, more resilient communities.

Through the Healthy Village Initiative, supported by ICICI Lombard in 2021, PHCs in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), and parts of Rajasthan were strengthened to better meet local healthcare needs. This effort expanded in 2022–23 through a CSR partnership with BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., which extended support to the PHC at Kajra, Rajasthan.

Aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, the initiative also contributes to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Grounded in the vision of inclusive development, it seeks to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to underserved populations.

Key interventions have included renovating infrastructure, repairing damaged roofs, ensuring access to clean drinking water, and installing awareness signages to promote health-seeking behaviour. PHCs have also been equipped with essential medical devices, hospital furniture, medicine storage units, and adequate supplies of medicines to enhance service delivery. In select locations, fully equipped medical kiosks have been introduced to provide basic consultations and treatments closer to rural communities.

These integrated efforts are transforming PHCs into safer, more efficient, and accessible healthcare hubs, improving the quality of life for rural populations.
